DEP schedules public meeting on Marcellus waste station plan
SUNBURY - The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will hold a public information meeting on Thursday, June 14, to discuss a residual waste transfer station permit application from Clean Harbors Environmental Services of Columbia, S.C., for a proposed facility in Sunbury.
The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the community room of the Degenstein Community Library, 40 S. Fifth St.
"This meeting will give the public an opportunity to learn about DEP's permitting process, the applicable regulations and specifics of the proposed facility," said acting regional director James E. Miller.
The meeting will begin with short presentations by DEP and Clean Harbors representatives, to be followed by a question-and-answer session.
The proposed site is in close proximity to an Environmental Justice area - identified as any census tract with 20 percent or more of the population at or below the poverty level, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, or with a 30-percent or greater minority population.
The permit application can be reviewed at Sunbury City Hall, 225 Market St., and the Northumberland County Courthouse, 201 Market St. Copies of the application are also on file for public review by appointment at the DEP North-central Regional Office, 208 W. Third St., Williamsport. Call 327-0550 to schedule an appointment.
