DANVILLE - Geisinger Medical Center's (GMC) dermatology department will conduct free skin cancer screenings this month in Montour, Columbia, Northumberland and Snyder counties.

More than 3 million Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer this year. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 9,000 people will die from a melanoma skin cancer, and another 3,000 will die from a non-melanoma skin cancer this year.

Skin cancer screenings are being held during the month of May in observance of Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. GMC dermatologists are scheduled to conduct four screenings at four convenient locations:

- Monday - 1 to 4 p.m.

Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, a campus of Geisinger Medical Center

4200 Hospital Road, Coal Township

- May 18 - 1 to 4 p.m.

Geisinger-Susquehanna University, a service of Geisinger Medical Center

620 University Ave., Selinsgrove

- May 31 - 1 to 4 p.m.

Geisinger Medical Group-Reichart Road

2407 Reichart Road, Bloomsburg

Individuals with moles, skin changes or who have been exposed to ultraviolet rays may be at risk for skin cancer, but early detection is the key to successfully treat skin cancer.

To register for one of the free screenings, call 800-275-6401 or visit www.geisinger.org/events.
