MCA to crown field day queen

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area High School Field Day queen will be crowned before the home track meet today against Montoursville.

Candidates are:

Senior Danelle Avellino resides in Marion Heights with her parents, Dennis and Tara Avellino. She is involved in marching and symphonic band, art club, interact club and Spanish club. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a distinguished honor roll student. Her interests include music and art. After high school, she plans to attend Johnson College to major in veterinary technology.

Senior Victoria Chapman is a daughter of Grace Chapman and resides in Mount Carmel. She is a member of the varsity softball team, pep club, interact club, Future Teachers of America, art club, National Honor Society and the athletic honor society, A distinguished honor roll student, she made the All-Area softball team in her junior year. She likes to run and spend time with her family and friends and enjoys outdoors and playing softball. She plans to attend Kutztown University to major in chemistry.

Senior Taylor Getty, a daughter of Bret and the late Lianne Getty, resides in Mount Carmel. She is a member of the varsity soccer team, and is also a captain of the swim team. She participates in interact club, Future Teachers of America, pep club, science club, chemistry club, yearbook, chorus and the play. She is on the distinguished honor roll, and has been inducted into the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, Masque and Gavel and the National Athletic Honor Society. She enjoys hanging out with friends, playing sports, working out and shopping. She plans to attend West Chester University to study biology.

Junior Nicole Purcell, a daughter of Kenneth and Tara Purcell, resides in Kulpmont. Her activities include TV studio, yearbook, interact club, volleyball, Odyssey of the Mind, Science Olympiad, envirothon, Latin club, chorus, yearbook photographer and stage crew. Her interests are photography and scrapbooking. She has been inducted into the Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society. Her awards include Elks Teen of the Month, regional high school computer fair winner, American Girl Award and Kulpmont Legion Ladies Auxiliary Award. Her plans to attend a college or university to major in criminology and minor in photography.

Sophomore Lauren Hause is a daughter of Harvey and Sandy Hause, Den Mar Gardens. Her activities include cross country, swimming, track and field, art club, Latin club and Future Reachers of America. She is also a member of the National Honor society and enjoys running, swimming and hanging out with friends and family. She plans to attend a four-year college.

Junior Tori Wariki is a daughter of Stan and Charlene Wariki, Kulpmont. Her activities include Future Teachers and Future Nurses of America, Students Against Destructive Decisions and interact club. An honor roll student, she plans to attend Lock Haven University to major in elementary special education.
