Shamokin Twp. to hold tire cleanup

STONINGTON-Shamokin Township will hold a tire cleanup this month. After a lengthy investigation, roadmaster Jon Clemens told supervisors at the Wednesday meeting that he found no one to reimburse the township for tires. Seeing a need to hold a tire cleanup for the good of the community, the board voted to pay for the removal of the tires.

The cleanup will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28, at the township municipal building. The limit is eight tires per household. Supervisors stressed that the tire cleanup is only for township residents. Rachau also mentioned that truck tires will not be accepted.

Other business

Clemens and assistant roadmaster Jeff Murphy attended a seminar and are now Class A certified, which makes them responsible for fuel tanks in the case of a fuel spill. Clemens brought paperwork to the meeting and will review it with the supervisors, which would make them Class C certified.

Township secretary Stephanie McKinney received an anonymous letter, which she brought to the meeting. Chairman Tom Carl, as well as supervisors John Klinger and Greg Rachau, said that any issues that may be in the letter will not be addressed because the township has a policy which states that anonymous letters will not be recognized.

The solicitor's report was presented by James Bathgate. George Wolfe reported on the fire department's activities for the month. Secretary and treasurer reports were accepted as reported by McKinney.
