FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - According to a statement released Friday, President/CEO Merlyn Knapp of Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs said laid-off employees will learn about options for retraining and assistance.

The media release also referred to a "potential sale" but offered no further details.

Jennifer M. Pisarchick, administrative director of Strategic Planning and Marketing at Saint Catherine, sent the press release Friday.

"We intend to do our best for our employees," Knapp said. "We are concerned for the welfare of our employees and have been working with the local CareerLink center and other organizations to provide a program that will enable our employees access to many different organizations."

The program will be offered from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 18 in the hospital's auditorium. It will feature organizations providing information on job retraining, adult education options, budget assistance and unemployment compensation.

Commenting on the recent state Department of Health inspection, Knapp said, "We do not agree with some of the findings and are currently working on a plan to address and appeal those findings."

In addition, Knapp said, "We are evaluating all future options for Saint Catherine Medical Center, including a potential sale and reopening of the hospital."

Saint Catherine Board of Directors Chairman Charles Brain said in the release, "We sincerely want to thank all of the physicians, employees and the community for their continued support of Saint Catherine Medical Center over the years."

Pisarchick said by phone that there was no additional information beyond what was in the release.
