MOUNT CARMEL - Knights of Columbus Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Council 628, of Mount Carmel announced plans for its Measure Up campaign on behalf of The Arc of Pennsylvania. Solicitations will be held in the borough's three Catholic churches following their Masses on Saturdays and Sundays.

Collections will be done at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish on April 14 and 15, SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on April 21 and 22, and Divine Redeemer Church on May 19 and 20.

Now in its 34th year, the Knights of Columbus of Pennsylvania has conducted it Measure Up campaign to raise money for local and state chapters of The Arc, a statewide organization of parents, friends and individuals with disabilities that provides advocacy and resources for Pennsylvanians with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Last year, Pennsylvania Knights raised $144,473.68 and collected more than $5 million during the past 33 campaigns. After campaign supply expenses, 75 percent of the money raised is returned to local chapters of The Arc and 25 percent remains with The Arc of Pennsylvania for its mission in Harrisburg.

Locally, donations benefit The Arc of Susquehanna Valley in Sunbury which services residents of Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties. In the last four, the Mount Carmel Knights has raised over $6,500.

Those wishing to contribute to this worthy cause can send their donations to the council at 128 W. Third St., Mount Carmel 17851.
