MOUNT CARMEL - One person was flown to a hospital following a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon in the borough.

The two-vehicle accident occurred at 6:45 p.m. on Vine Street near Second Street, when a Toyota Corolla rolled twice after hitting a parked Dodge Neon.

A witness said the driver of the Corolla, described as a man in his 20s, was foaming at the mouth and lethargic in his moments following the crash. The driver was transported by Kulpmont Ambulance to the Mount Carmel Area Junior-Senior High School soccer field, where he was placed onto a Life Flight helicopter and flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Mount Carmel police did not release his name.

Second Street resident Michael Straub said he heard a loud thud, before looking out his window to investigate.

"It (the Corolla) was still on its driver's side, then it finally landed," he said. "The driver was laying across the center console with his head towards the back seat. He was bleeding from the ear and unable to speak."

Straub said the driver was breathing and that he even attempted to sit back up.

The Neon, owned by Gene Wavorski, of 40 N. Vine St., was pushed several car lengths away from the point of impact. The Toyota's roof was dented and scratched; the front window smashed in all directions.

The scene was cleared in approximately one hour.
