Low-cost vision clinic coming to area

SHAMOKIN - A low-income vision clinic is coming to Shamokin and Sunbury in May, and registration is necessary.

Northwestern PA Optical Clinic will be at the offices of Central Susquehanna Opportunities inside the Northumberland County Career and Arts Center, 2 E. Arch St., from 9 to 11 a.m. May 1. That same day, the clinic will be at the Sunbury CareerLink, 225 Market St., from 1 to 3 p.m.

Eyeglasses, including lined bifocals, are available at $36 to those who meet income requirements. Unlined bifocals are available at an additional cost. Solid tint is also offered.

The guidelines are: $21,032, single; $27,992, couple; $6,969 for each additional person in a household.

An appointment is necessary. Call the clinic at 1-800-901-1912. Bring a eyeglass prescription to the appointment.

SAHS to issue progress reports

COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area Middle/High School will distribute progress reports to students Tuesday. All students in grades 7 to 12 will receive a progress report to update parents on their child's academic status.

Mission Vespers at St. Michael's

MOUNT CARMEL - St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 131 N. Willow St. will host a Frackville Deanery Great Lent Mission Vespers at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 1, Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt. Clergy from the deanery will participate. The homilist is the Rev. Daniel Mathewson, pastor of St. Mary's (Nativity) Orthodox Church, Coaldale. The public is invited, and a fellowship hour will be held after vespers.

St. Michael's is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America, Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania.

Archpriest Michael H. Evans is the pastor.
