Ranshaw civic group reorganizes

RANSHAW - Recently, citizens of Ranshaw and nearby communities met to reorganize the Ranshaw Civic Association, and new officers were appointed. Anyone interested in the picnic grounds or hall facilities is asked to contact Greg Komara at 648-8842 or 274-3093.

Wildlife presentation set for church

PAXINOS - A wildlife presentation "Success Afield, Success in Life," will be presented at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ (the "Blue Church"), Airport and Blue Church roads.

Special speaker will be Kansas deer hunting guide and trophy whitetail deer hunter Gary Fritz. Gary's 184-inch Kansas trophy will be on display with the opportunity for hunters to ask questions. Also appearing will be all-around sportsman and trapper Scott Sweigart, and triple trophy hunter and 26-year wildlife photographer Pastor Paul Gurba of Coal Township. Photos and mounts will be on display for all to enjoy.

Food and refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the program.

Priestley open house set March 11

NORTHUMBERLAND - Friends of Joseph Priestley House will welcome visitors to the 18th century home of Joseph Priestley, 472 Priestley Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, with free admission.

The annual "open house," a statewide commemoration by the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission, marks the signing of the state's charter. Locally, the "Friends" group celebrates Priestley's birthday, which was March 13, 1733.

The renowned scientist, political thinker and dissenting clergyman lived in Northumberland from 1794 to his death in 1804.

Ronald Blatchley, as Joseph Priestley, will perform 18th chemistry demonstrations in the Pond Building on the grounds at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Birthday cake and punch will be served in the visitors center starting at 1 p.m. Visitors may tour the museum at their own pace, with guides in vintage costume to greet them and answer questions.
