MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area School District hosted a recent meeting of the Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce.
After a light breakfast served by Nutrition, Inc., Superintendent Cheryl Latorre welcomed all attendees to the school, including State Rep. Kurt Masser and Pam Earley from the office of Sen. John Gordner.
Sandy Winhofer, chamber director, praised the efforts of the chamber members for their involvement in numerous community events, including the Workplace Tour program, a project which connects students with employers so that students can learn firsthand what a business is like. Winhofer also spoke on the School Counts initiative where students work on attendance, punctuality and effort to develop the attitude and work ethic desirable to employers.
Sue Hoffman, Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit program manager of After School Programs, presented a video featuring the TIES activities.
Following the meeting, guests toured the MCA campus. Laura Siko, Luzerne County Community College director commented, "We were especially impressed with the upgraded and updated science wing. This was a great opportunity to see the students and teachers at work both in the high school and elementary buildings."
