SHAMOKIN - The Northumberland County Council for the Arts and Humanities will again crown a Coal Cracker prince and princess during this year's festival.
The event includes three age categories: little princess and prince (ages 3-6), junior princess and prince (ages 7-11) and princess and prince (ages 12-15).
The boy and girl who raise the most funds through donations will earn the crown in their respective age category. Children can ask for donations or can place donation jars in participating businesses.
All funds raised will be donated to the Northumberland County Council of the Arts and Humanity to help bring more events to the coal region.
All participants will be in the parade May 27. Winners will be announced and crowned on stage after the parade. The winner will receive a cash price, a crown and a sash.
Contestants must enter by April 25 and all funds raised must be turned in by May 25 so the winner can be determined.
The council is still accepting parade participants. Social groups, sports groups, businesses, individuals and pets are encouraged to take part in the parade. Participants can build floats, drive antique cars or lifted trucks or show off their pets.
Categories this year are: most patriotic, best use of coal mining heritage theme, most entertaining and most creative. Contact Pam Burns at First National Bank on Market Street to participate. For more information on Coal Cracker Princess and Prince crowning, call Shelby Foulds at 274-3534.
