Friends of SUN Home plan luncheon

NORTHUMBERLAND - The Friends of SUN Home, the auxiliary of SUN Home Health and Hospice, will hold their annual spring luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, in Nottingham Village Retirement Center's Great Room. The cost of the luncheon is $12 per person. The event is open to the public.

Guest speaker will be Shirley Sauers, SUN Home private care supervisor. She will present information regarding SUN Home's private care program designed to provide high-quality services that enhance and support independent living arrangements. An update on current auxiliary events will also be given.

Reservations for the luncheon are required by March 28. For more information about the auxiliary or to make a reservation for the luncheon meeting, call Susan Hamilton at SUN Home Health and Hospice at 1-800-634-5232, extension 7669, or 473-7669.

Community members are also welcome to join the Friends of SUN Home Auxiliary. Members serve as community ambassadors for SUN Home Health and Hospice and assist with several fund-raisers throughout the year to benefit the organization.

Basketball practice planned

SHAMOKIN DAM - Northumberland Snyder Special Olympics' first basketball practice will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 2349 North Old Trail, Shamokin Dam.

Breakfast for township officials held

NORTHUMBERLAND - Northumberland County Conservation District hosted the third annual Township Supervisors Breakfast Thursday at Front Street Station. The meeting was held to bring township leaders together and equip them with the knowledge and resources that the conservation district and cooperating agencies can provide.

Township represented at the breakfast include Shamokin, Rush, Delaware, East Chillisquaque, West Chillisquaque, Rockefeller, Lower Augusta, Point, Lewis, and East Cameron, in Northumberland County, and Cooper, West Hemlock and Liberty, in Montour County.

Steve Taglang, from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), gave a presentation on the Chesapeake Bay initiative and what will be required of townships with the total maximum daily loads limits set by the Environmental Protection Agency. He discussed the watershed implementation plan. Taglang also gave an update on the new manure management manual developed by DEP that will be published this summer.

Mark Lonergan, DEP engineer, talked about changes in the erosion and sedimentation regulations. The changes affect permitting for small and large earth disturbances.

George Grose, also a DEP engineer, talked about enforcement and the roles of DEP, conservation districts and municipalities with new regulations.
