SUNBURY - State Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108th) announced Wednesday she is a candidate for re-election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Culver, a lifelong resident of Northumberland County, was first elected to the House in 2010.
"I have the honor and privilege of serving as the voice of the people for the 108th Legislative District in Harrisburg and I seek to continue my service for another term," Culver said. She serves as secretary of the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee and the Commerce, Labor and Industry and State Government committees.
Culver said she voted for the first on-time balanced budget in eight years that "right-sized state
government by doing exactly what families and businesses have been doing during these challenging economic times - spending no more than you take in." She said she also voted to further protect residents' Second Amendment rights through the expansion of the Castle Doctrine, to criminalize the sale of synthetic drugs commonly known as "bath salts" and to strengthen the transparency and accountability of state government.
Culver said the House advanced legislation that she authored to preserve the Pennsylvania Conservation Corps, and Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law her bill to name a portion of Route 642 in honor of Zachariah Long, a local hero from Milton who lost his life serving in Iraq,
Culver said she represents the values of her district and refers to the office as the "People's Seat." She said she has furthered that philosophy by seeking the advice and counsel of her constituents as legislation and issues are debated in Harrisburg.
Culver said her office has worked closely with municipalities, police departments, fire companies, community and veterans organizations in obtaining important information and referring them to state agencies for assistance.
Culver resides in Rockefeller Township with her husband, Tom, and her son Joshua.
