44 kids receive gifts at police officers' party
SHAMOKIN - The Coal Township and Shamokin police departments held their annual Christmas party Friday evening, which benefited 44 local children. The event, held at the Independence Fire Company in Shamokin, was organized by Coal Township Patrolman Terry Ketchem and Shamokin City Patrolman Jarrod Scandle.
Because of the growing support of individuals and organizations, the party has grown significantly over the years. An estimated $6,000 of clothes and toys were given to the children this year. Pizza and beverages were also provided.
Donors include Coal Township Chief of Police William Carpenter; township Deputy Chief Christopher Williams; township desk clerk Molly Engle; township commissioners Gene Welsh, Craig Fetterman, George Zalar and Gerard Waugh III; township manager Robert Slaby; officers from Shamokin and Coal Township police departments; Shamokin Councilman William Milbrand; Shamokin City Police Patrolman Raymond Siko II, Independence Fire Association and West End Fire Company in Shamokin; Fairview Gun Club; Sons of Italy; Carriage House Studio, Joshua V. Bressi Photography; Scotch Valley Boys Hunting Cabin; Anthracite Provisions; PepsiCo; Weis Markets; American Legion Post 73; employees of Northumberland County Career and Technology Center; Shamokin Area Education Association; Saint Francis Home Association; Catawissa ABATE; Lords Disciples Motorcycle Club, and Domino's Pizza.
