SUNBURY - Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Rosini asked county residents to remember crime victims and survivors as part of National Crime Victims Rights Week, April 10 to 16.
"National Crime Victims Rights Week is a time to commemorate the ongoing efforts that promote justice for victims in Pennsylvania," Rosini said. "As district attorney, I have seen the pain victims suffer in the aftermath of a criminal act. During National Crime Victims Rights Week, it is important for all of us to remember and respect the fact that the people who suffer the most from crime are crimes' victims."
Rosini noted Northumberland County has a victim-witness coordinator in both the adult and juvenile courts that are grant funded and involve no county tax dollars. Additionally, the county offers several programs to assist victims, including the PA SAVIN automated victim notification program, the Child Advocacy Center for minors who are victims of crimes, and our Victim Services Program.
"Northumberland County is working hard to ensure that victims of crime aren't victimized again by the criminal justice system," Rosini added.
The district attorney invited all members of the community to attend the National Victim's Rights Observance, which will be held at the Cameron Park gazebo on Market Street, Sunbury at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The theme of this year's commemoration is "Reshaping the Future, Honoring the Past." It is intended to remember victims' past struggles for recognition in a system that is focused on defendants and our nation's duty to help them rebuild stronger lives. The district attorney will also recognize a group or individual who has provided outstanding service to the victims of crime this past year.
