Southern Columbia Area School Board keeps same president, vice president

CATAWISSA RR - It was business as usual at the Southern Columbia Area school board re-organizational meeting Monday night as the president and vice president were re-elected to their positions.

The vote to keep President Mike Yeager and Vice President Charlie Porter was a unanimous decision among the board.

Two new board members were also sworn into the board. Dawnmarie Buriak, of Cleveland Township, replaces Director Dave Stellfox, who lost in the general election. Ronald Brobst, of Catawissa, replaces Director Paul Starr, who chose to not to run for re-election. Brobst was a write-in winner.

Director Rick Steel was appointed the PSBA liaison for 2012 calender year to serve as the district's contact for Pennsylvania School Boards Association's governmental relations. Director John Yocum was appointed representative on the Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School Joint Operating Committee. Director Charlene Cove was appointed representative of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit Board of Directors.

In the regular meeting, the board also accepted the bid for disposal of the 1,000-gallon portable fuel tank to Bosack Construction, Pottsville, for $1,100.
