MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Council 628 and Assembly 959 honored its deceased and living members Nov. 5.
Sixteen knights were remembered at the annual memorial Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish: Sir Knights James F. Brennan, Joseph Brennan, James Conroy, Tomas F. Demko, John J. Sarisky and Charles M. Zlockie, along with Robert L. Bresadola, James T. Dempsey, Thomas J. Gross, Christopher P. Holda, Gerald Malinowski, Anthony V. Miscavige Jr., Harry E. Moleski, Anthony J. Revenis, Bruno J. Scicchitano and Daniel R. Wyschock.
The color corps consisted of Master James Bailoni, George Kroutch; Past Faithful Navigator Henry Zuech; Captain of Color Corps Frank Birster, Thomas Buehl, James Hogan, John McDonnell, Joseph Pelchar and Joseph Swatski. Anthony Candelora carried the American flag; Gerald Palovick the papal flag; Patrick Halcovich the Knights of Columbus flag; Brock Bridy the Fourth Degree flag and David Berezovske the council banner.
During Mass, the names of the deceased were read by Deacon Martin McCarthy; their absence and date of death were reported by Bailoni, and the church bell was rung by John Hollis. Sixteen red roses representing each deceased knight were placed in a vase by Kroutch and Zuech.
During the offertory procession, the sword, a symbol of the Knights of Columbus as protectors of church and state, was carried by Hogan. The offering, representing the first principle of the Knights charity, was carried by Palovick. The rope, representing the second principle of unity, was carried by Halcovich. The Knights of Columbus emblem, representing the third principle of fraternity, was carried by Berezovske, and the American flag, representing the fourth principle of patriotism, was carried by Birster. Bailoni presented the ciborium and Swatski the wine to the Rev. Francis Karwacki, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrant.
Eucharistic ministers were Maria Bridy, Sandra Halcovich and Mary Kleman. Altar servers were Danielle Hooper, Nicole Hooper and Amanda Horan. Brent McPeak served as lector and Sherry Moroz as organist.
Following Mass, a ceremony and social was held honoring the life, honorary and 50-year members of both the council and assembly.
New life members are Donald E. Bulla, James F. Darrup, Stanley J. Hynoski, John R. Kondisko, Robert A. Novicenskie, Joseph F. Pupo and Michael Stebila.
Honorary members are Patrick Halcovich, Albert E. Kieski, Joseph Liptock and James M. Sheehan.
New 50-year members are Richard S. Fortis, Robert J. Martin, Robert A. Novicenskie and Walter V. Wanzie.
Life members of the Assembly honored were John R. Kondisko, Joseph T. Lutcavage, Charles F. Mannello, Michael Stebila and Joseph P. Swatski.
Honorary members are David A. Baksi, Gerald C. Campomizzi, Robert J. Drucis, Joseph Liptock, John Mazurkevich, Bernard P. Novakoski, Michael P. Panko, Thomas M. Reisinger, Thomas A. Switzer and Michael J. White.
The ladies auxiliary prepared and served the meal following the ceremony.
