DANVILLE - The owner of an agriculture feed mill in Shamokin Township died Wednesday at Geisinger Medical Center from injuries suffered in an industrial accident earlier this week.
Scott Lynn, Montour County Coroner, told the Bloomsburg Press Enterprise for Thursday's edition that the family of 31-year-old Jeffrey A. Mummey Jr. decided to remove him from life support after he showed no signs of brain activity or improvement.
He died just before 2 p.m., Lynn told the newspaper.
The Catawissa man was owner of Shamrock Mills, 216 Shamrock Road, just off Bottle Road. He was working there Monday morning when his sweatshirt became entangled in machinery on the mill's third floor.
According to reports at the scene, longtime customer Don Jeffrey arrived at the mill Monday morning where he encountered Mummey's son, who was seeking help. Jeffrey then used a utility knife to cut Mummey's shirt from a large drive shaft, freeing him from the machinery.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the mill at 8:50 a.m.
Mummey was treated at the scene, where he was reportedly revived, and then lowered from the mill's third floor by a ladder truck from Danville Fire Department. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone, from where he was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Geisinger.
