CATAWISSA RR - Southern Columbia Area School Board Director Dave Stellfox was the only member of the board to have been voted off in last week's election, and Superintendent Charles Reh bid him farewell Monday night.

"I want to thank him for his experience. He's been invaluable for expertise in the building project. I hope he comes back to the meetings to give his input," the superintendent said.

Stellfox, who was on the board for four years, lost his seat in Columbia County to Dawnmarie Buriak, 53, of Cleveland Township, by approximately 100 votes.

"I actually enjoyed this. Most of the time it was interesting," he said.

He said the buildings and facilities are in much better shape and advised the board to not "nickel and dime" everything otherwise it would cost more in the long run.

"If there's anything I can do for the district, I will do that at no charge," he said.

Stellfox left the meeting following his statements, saying he didn't feel comfortable voting any longer now that he was leaving the board.

Director Paul Starr, a board member for six years, will also not return to the board. He chose not to run in the election, but there were no candidates on the ballot. Write in names have yet been determined.

In other business, board voted to approve the purchase of two scoreboards for the gymnasium at a price of $5,718, which includes the price of shipping and wireless controls. The items come from Sportable Scoreboards, Kentucky.

The current school board was purchased in 1989 and would cost at least $2,330 to fix.
