Route 225 flood work underway
MONTOURSVILLE - Emergency flood recovery work at eight locations along a 10-mile stretch of Route 225 in Northumberland County is now underway.
The work along Route 225 will take place from just north of Pillow in Lower Mahanoy Township to just south of Trevorton in Zerbe Township. The contractor, New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. will restrict traffic to a single lane in the work zone from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with the use of flaggers.
The project is for emergency and permanent repairs consisting of rock embankment, debris removal, deposition removal, rock scour protection, shoulder repairs and resetting of guiderails. All work under this $215,966 contract is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
Mount Carmel Food Pantry distribution
MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Borough Food Pantry will have their monthly food distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Notary Shop, 215 S. Oak St. for those who have signed up. Please bring back the green bags ahead of time so they can be filled up.
Meeting Tuesday, no school Monday
COAL TOWNSHIP - The regular monthly meeting of the Shamokin Area School Board will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 in the board conference room.
There will be no school for Shamokin Area students on Monday, Nov. 14. Teachers will be participating in an in-service day.
Decorators sought for downtown event
SHAMOKIN - Anyone wishing to decorate a live Christmas tree for Downtown Christmas on Dec. 3 should call 850-9121.
Individuals, organizations or businesses doing the decorating must provide the decorations and a tree stand. The trees are provided.
Trees will be judged and then given to needy families.
