ELYSBURG - On Saturday, March 19, Knights of Columbus Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Council 628, of Mount Carmel, presented checks totaling $1,500 in support of vocations to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Elysburg.
Mother Stella Marie accepted the donations on behalf of two postulants and a novice on the feast day of Saint Joseph. The novice is from Yardley, and the postulants are from Hanceville, Ala., and Winsted, Canada.
Representing Council 628 were Grand Knight David Berezovske, Financial Secretary George Kroutch, Chancellor and Master of the Central District James Bailoni and Treasurer Henry Zuech.
The donations were made through the Knights's RSVP program. Since 1989, the council has been providing financial support to seminarians and those in religious formation. The first to receive support from the local Knights was The Rev. William J. Waltersheid, of Locust Gap, who was then a seminarian at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. Waltersheid will be ordained a bishop on April 25 and will serve as auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Those who served on that initial committee were Kroutch, Zuech, John Liptoch, Joseph Lutcavage, who was Grand Knight, and the Rev. Thomas Marickovic. Zuech is the current chairman of the RSVP program.
