KULPMONT - Betty Chapman, the new president of the Kulpmont American Legion Auxiliary, called the Oct. 25 meeting to order. Chaplain Jackie Butler, opened the meeting with a prayer, followed the Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble.

The first order of business was Chapman thanking past-president Joan Schascheck for taking her, Elaine Zanuck and Renee Redd to the Six-County District Meeting, which they said was very informative. The group learned that in 2013, yearly dues will be going up. The group also learned of different projects that can help defray the cost of the increase. Lourdes Americanism Essay reports, written by Selina Alberts, was selected to go to Nationals. Good luck Selina.

Chapman brought up a project to start on in January. The project was discussed, but tabled and to be discussed more at a later meeting. Joan Kase passed and Elaine Zanuck seconded.

The Christmas party was then discussed. Chapman and Redd went to Village Towne and talked to owner Frank Alarcon. Pat Kross passed this and Jackie Butler seconded it. The party will be held at 6 p.m, Dec. 6 in the Legion social rooom. A sign up sheet is hanging in the Legion foyer. Women are asked to bring a dessert.

The decorating of the tree will be done after the November meeting, The decorating of the hall and setting up of the tables will be done at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

The meeting was closed with Chapman saying the closing prayer.

After the meeting, a special social was held for former president Joan Schascheck, who received a remembrance gift from the members. All are sorry to see her leave and wish her the best of luck.
