COAL TOWNSHIP - The annual induction liturgy for officers and new members of the Father Filippelli Chapter of the National Honor Society at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School was held Tuesday in the school's gymnasium.
The program centered on recognizing the unique gifts of each individual. The Rev. Al Sceski was the celebrant.
An introduction, read by Annie Stewart, featured a brief history of the Father Filippelli Chapter of the National Honor Society. The chapter was named in honor of the first principal of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School.
Participants in the traditional National Honor Society candle lighting ceremony were Felicia Bartello, Alexandra Singh, Molly Loftus and Elizabeth Korbich.
The ceremony reflects on the values required of honor society members: scholarship, character, leadership and service. Following the blessing of the pins by Sceski, NHS Advisor Grethel Vinup introduced the students elected to serve as officers for the 2011-2012 school year. Officers are President Annie Stewart, Vice-President Rachel Davis, Recording Secretary Tristen Riegel, Corresponding Secretary Alexandra Singh and Treasurer Molly Loftus. Each officer recited the oath of office and received a pin symbolizing her office.
Davis then announced the names of the inductees and led them in reciting the National Honor Society pledge. The eight new members then received their membership pins. Seniors Annie Seif and Michael Feudale led the student body in pledging to acknowledge and use the gifts they have been given. The program concluded with the singing of the Lourdes Alma Mater and remarks by Lourdes Principal Deacon Martin McCarthy.
Students inducted into the Father Filippelli Chapter of the National Honor Society were juniors Dustin Bendas, John Fitzpatrick, Richard Gusick, Tyler Holleran, Nicole Komara, Kara Kuehner, CharLee Rosini and Michael Sowash.
