Chuck Wagon available for needy
SHAMOKIN - Those in need of a warm meal are welcome to take part in the Chuck Wagon Mobile Soup Kitchen that is offered each Monday evening in the area of the WIC office (former Newberry building), 10 E. Independence St.
Pastor James and Janet Bowers of Shamokin believe it is their mission to feed those in need and extend a caring hand.
The modest operation involves a kettle of soup, but last week the Bowers served 37 people.
They hope to expand the operation and help more people. Part of that plan involves purchasing a vehicle. A spaghetti dinner to help that cause will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at Mountainview Assembly of God Church, Trevorton Road, Coal Township. A Christmas cookie sale is also being planned for that day.
"We just want to continue what we think God has called us to do, make sure that no one goes hungry," Bowers said.
