County convention today
SUNBURY - Officials representing townships of the second class in Northumberland County will convene at 5:45 p.m. today at the Sunbury Social Club for their annual County Convention.
The purpose of the annual convention is to provide township officials with up-to-date information to help them better serve their residents and to give them an opportunity to exchange ideas on local government issues.
The convention will feature several speakers, including James Wheeler from the state Association of Township Supervisors, which represents Pennsylvania's 1,457 townships of the second class, 22 of which are located in Northumberland County.
Other speakers who will address the township officials include Scott Heintzelman and Cindy Inkrote from the Northumberland County Historical Society, state Sen. John Gordner, Rep. Linda Schlegel Culver or a staff member, Rep. Kurt Masser or a staff member and PennDOT representatives.
Halloween parade rescheduled
KULPMONT - The Kulpmont Halloween parade has been moved from Thursday to Saturday. Registration will begin at noon at St. Mary's Activity Center behind Holy Angels Church. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and will follow the same route as usual.
Band, orchestra selling fruit
COAL TOWNSHIP - The annual citrus sale sponsored by the Shamokin Area Instrumental Music Department has begun. Deadline for orders is Friday, Nov. 11. Contact the Shamokin Area High School Band Office at 648-5731, ext. 3107, or any student member of the instrumental music department.
Orders can be picked up from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the back stage entrance to the high school auditorium.
