Divine Redeemer Autumnfest Saturday

MOUNT CARMEL - The annual Autumnfest sponsored by Divine Redeemer Parish will be held from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Divine Mercy Hall and on the adjacent grounds in the 400 block of West Cherry Street.

Featured at the rain-or-shine event will be ethnic and favorite foods, beverages and a bake sale Highlighting the day will be a variety of crafters and vendors, including live plants and handmade crafts by Charmaine Ryan, Longberger baskets and pottery by Stephanie Niglio, Presents under Glass giftware and seasonal décor, a yard sale by SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Pampered Chef and Tupperware by Francine Menko, 31 Gifts by Sheryl Schlegel and Jamie Cotner, Mary Kay Cosmetics, wreaths and crafts by Angela Jaworsky, jewelry and ceramics by Kelly Rose Harman, Goby's Hobbies, jewelry and flowers by Sue Weisenflah, flowers and bows by Rachel Puza and Gracie's Gracelets.

Activities include a composting seminar by a Penn State master gardener, local teen talent show and bingo.

All proceeds will benefit Divine Redeemer Parish.

Kulpmont cruise on television

MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Area high School's television station, WKMC, will broadcast the Kulpmont Cruise at 8 p.m. today. The cruise was filmed by Dave McFee, director of WKMC.

Marino on WVIA tonight

U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, R-10, will be the guest of WVIA-TV host Bill Kelly on the next "State of Pennsylvania," 7 p.m. today.

Marino will answer questions presented by the host and callers, and those submitted through the Internet during the one-hour show. WVIA is accepting reservations for those who would like to be in the audience during the show.

To be part of the live audience in the Sordoni High Definition Theater at the WVIA studios in Pittston, call 602-1150 or visit wvia.org to reserve your free seats.

Viewers may call in questions during the show at 1-800-326-9842 or go to wvia.org to submit questions online.

Lower Road closed for repairs

WEST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - Route 3004 (Lower Road) is closed in West Cameron Township and a red-arrow detour in effect while PennDOT replaces several cross pipes damaged during September's flooding. Lower Road is closed between Didium Lane and Upper Road. The detour will use Didium Lane and Upper Road.

The detour will be in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Saturday.

Democratic women to offer salute

SHAMOKIN - The Shamokin Area Democratic Women will honor their "Outstanding Person of 2011" at an event to be held at the Shamokin Knights of Columbus social room, Independence and Rock streets, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.

Tickets for the event are $20 and can be reserved by calling President Peggy Ferrari at 648-4724.

Mount Carmel Township Food Pantry

ATLAS - The Mount Carmel Township Food Pantry, will hold its monthly distribution, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, for residents in Atlas, Diamondtown, Strong, Locust Gap, Connorsville, Dooleyville and Beaverdale who have signed up.

Ford gives $50,000 toward cleanup

BLOOMSBURG - The Ford Motor Company Fund is donating $50,000 to Central Susquehanna Community Foundation to assist with rebuilding in Bloomsburg in the wake of recent flooding.

"Our hearts go out to our Bloomsburg neighbors in the wake of devastating floods," said David Schoch, CFO, The Americas, Ford Motor Company. Schoch was in Bloomsburg Friday to thank the employees at Rieter Automotive Systems who - despite their personal and community challenges - quickly resumed production during a period of extraordinary circumstances.

The plant is located near the Susquehanna River, which rose to record levels following Tropical Storm Lee.

The plant had limited time to prepare for the storm, which flooded the building and machinery with dirty floodwater and silt. Within several days of reentering the facility, workers cleaned the machinery and began to relaunch production and shipping to Ford assembly plants.

Kulpmont Borough food distribution set

KULPMONT - Borough residents enrolled in the Food Surplus program in Kulpmont are reminded that a distribution will be held at the borough garage from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Oct. 27. Residents are reminded to bring their bags.

COAL TOWNSHIP - The Coal Bowl will be hosting a free Halloween party for children 18 and under from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at 1380 Tioga St.

In addition to free bowling, all children will be eligible for treat bags, games, music and door prizes, and those who dress up will be eligible for best costume prizes. They will be giving away free parties, balls, and many other items on that day.

BLOOMSBURG- Rashid Khalidi, professor and scholar at Columbia University, will give a lecture on U.S. involvement in the Middle East at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Kehr Union Ballroom. His talk is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and the history department and is open to the public free of charge.

Khalidi's discussion will focus on the Arab Spring, a new growth of revolutionary activity in the Middle East. Although much of the region is involved in the movement, the best-known examples include the Egyptian protests earlier this year and recent conflicts in Libya and Syria.

Khalidi is former president of the Middle East Studies Association and was adviser to the Palestinian delegation during the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations during October 1991 and June 1993. He is a member on the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the national advisory committee of the U.S. Interreligious Committee for Peace in the Middle East.

Vendors wanted for holiday event

MOUNT CARMEL - Vendors, crafters, bakers and jewelry makers are needed for the Holiday Shopping Extravaganza, to be held Sunday, Nov. 27, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Mount Carmel Area High School. A fee of $20 per space will be charged with proceeds benefiting the Mount Carmel Area Band.

Tickets on sale for "White Christmas"

SHAMOKIN - Tickets are currently on sale for the production of "White Christmas" set to be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26 and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Northumberland County Career and Arts Center Auditorium. The tickets are $5 each and are available at Beverly's Flower Shop and Shuey Jewelers in downtown Shamokin.

Southern gospel choir at Elysburg church

ELYSBURG - The Ralpho Women's Club will present the Southern Gospel Choir at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Elysburg Presbyterian Church.

The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
