ELYSBURG - The Rev. John Fenton has presided at many weddings, "but this is the most unique location I've ever been at," he said at a service Saturday outside the Haunted Mansion at Knoebels Amusement Resort.

Douglas Edward Kuhns and Angela Marie Pitt, Shamokin, married in front of the popular dark ride - a wedding first for the Knoebels' attraction, which opened in 1973.

Pitt is a long-time seasonal gift shop employee at Knoebels and also a customer service representative for The News-Item. Kuhns is a sales manager for Sears Auto Center, Selinsgrove.

The marriage service followed a normal format, with the exception of the newlyweds sharing their first moments together with ghouls and spooks on the Haunted Mansion ride.

"It's very creative," said park co-owner Ronald "Buddy" Knoebel after placing a "just married" sign on the back of a Haunted House "Pretzel" car. "They obviously have some identification with it (ride). It's a first."

There have been weddings at the Phoenix Roller Coaster, Grand Carousel, pavilions, the gazebo in the center of the park, and even at the Crystal Pool, where Knoebel married his wife, Debbie, in 1999.

Pitt's brother, Aldo, said his sister and new brother-in-law are grateful the Knoebel family allowed them to have the wedding there.

"It's time appropriate with Halloween and the fall foliage," he said.

A reception was held at the Indian Hills Golf and Tennis Club, near Paxinos.

Pitt is a daughter of the late Aldo J. and Lousie Pitt. Kuhns is a son of Sheila Kuhns and the late John Kuhns.
