SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n David Goad, 41, of 728 Market St., Sunbury, waived to court Tuesday charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property and was ordered to appear in county court on Nov. 14.

Goad was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with stealing two 32-inch Samsung televisions and a Hewlett Packer computer tower from Wal-Mart Supercenter along Route 61 on Dec. 5.

n Bryan J. Knowles, 20, of 28 W. Willow St., Shamokin, waived to court multiple charges and was ordered to appear in county court on Nov. 14.

Knowles was charged by Coal Township Detective Jeff Brennan with arson and criminal mischief for allegedly burning a 1993 Plymouth van owned by FireDex of Mount Carmel on June 28 in a wooded area beyond the third patch of Bear Valley.

Knowles also was charged by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano with theft, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy involving the theft of the van that occurred June 27 in the 300 block of South Fifth Street.

n Kayla Wehry, 23, of 256 S. Pearl St., Shamokin, and Jennifer Davis, 30, of Duncansville, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct and were each ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs. An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn against both defendants.

Wehry and Davis were charged by Shamokin Patrolman Nathan Rhodes and Cpl. John Brown with assaulting Frances Conroy in front of 399 S. Harrison St. on Sept. 3.

n Kyle L. Gray, 25, of 494 W. Saylor St., Atlas, pleaded guilty to public drunkenness and criminal mischief and was ordered to pay fines totaling $400 plus costs and make $370 restitution.

An additional charge of disorderly conduct was withdrawn.

Gray was charged by Shamokin Cpl. John Brown with causing disturbances at 55 Raspberry Hill and 8 Raspberry Hill on Sept. 4.

n Brett Wolfgang, 19, of 1016 W. Independence St., Coal Township, waived to court charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct relating to an Aug. 31 disturbance at his home.

Wolfgang is charged by Coal Township Detective Jeff Brennan with stabbing his brother, Brian Wolfgang Jr., in the shoulder and finger with a letter opener.

n Stephen Carsto, 21, of 1116 Chemung St., Coal Township, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of careless driving.

Carsto was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Henrich in connection with a July 2 accident in the 1000 block of West Arch Street.

n Ryan Campbell, 26, of 833 Center St., Tharptown, was held for court on charges of simple assault and harassment.

Campbell was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Darwin Tobias III with assaulting Danielle Kerstetter at 22 S. Market St., Apt. 7, on Aug. 30.

After the hearing, Gembic committed Campbell to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. Campbell had been free on unsecured bail.

n Robert Malia, 43, of 1426 Spruce St., Ashland, pleaded guilty to harassment and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs. An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

Malia was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Jarrod Scandle with assaulting Courtney Lynn at 507 S. Market St. on Sept. 27.

n Nathan Hale, 36, of 109 N. Franklin St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs. Additional charges of simple assault and harassment were withdrawn.

Hale was charged by Shamokin Cpl. Darwin Tobias III with assaulting his live-in girlfriend, Gina Runkle, at their residence on Aug. 22.

n Larry G. Hummel, 68, of 2237 Stetler Drive, Coal Township, waived to court a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol relating to a June 17 incident near his home.

The charge was filed by Coal Township Deputy Police Chief Chris Williams.
