SHAMOKIN - Three people were transported to Shamokin Area Community Hospital for symptoms of carbon monoxide, but were not identified by firefighters at a Sunbury Street apartment building Monday night.
Firefighters were called to 76 E. Sunbury St., at 11:55 p.m. for a reported natural gas leak. Upon investigation, firefighters said a chimney was blocked in the home with a natural gas furnace, causing carbon monoxide to build up in the home.
Ashly Madison, 22, of Apt. 2, returned home shortly before midnight to what she described as a "weird smell."
"It's been like this for two days. I just thought my house was dirty," she said at the scene.
Madison said she discussed the situation with her neighbor who said it could be a gas leak. That's when she called 911.
Madison transported her brother, Eddie Madison, to the hospital by personal vehicle when he complained of a headache. She added that she saw her neighbor's mother faint twice before emergency personnel were summoned.
The situation was called under control at 1:11 a.m. and cleared at 4:41 a.m.
