n SHAMOKIN - John J. Dascani, 66, of Mount Carmel, who was charged by Kulpmont Police Chief Richard Wilson III in connection with a Feb. 8 pedestrian accident, waived to court Tuesday charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, failure to give immediate notice of an accident to police and failure to provide information or render aid at an accident.
Dascani was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment May 2 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
The charges relate to an accident in the 900 block of Chestnut Street (Route 61) in which Dascani was operating a 1998 Subaru Outback that struck Nancy L. Harring, 54, of Kulpmont, as she was attempting to cross the street. After the accident, Dascani allegedly left the scene without providing information or assistance, and failed to notify police.
Gembic heard the case because Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel has recused himself from presiding over any legal proceedings involving Wilson, who is running against Jones in the May 17 primary election for magisterial district judge.
n SHAMOKIN - Shane Michael Wondoloski, 19, of 344 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel, waived to court Tuesday charges of possession of marijuana and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia relating to an Aug. 14 incident on Big Mountain Road in Coal Township.
The charges were filed by Cpl. Michael Simpler of state police at Montoursville.
Wondoloski was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment May 2 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n SHAMOKIN - Linda Depena, 32, of 212 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, waived to court Tuesday charges of retail theft and criminal conspiracy relating to a Dec. 18 incident at Wal-Mart Supercenter along Route 61.
Depena was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell Jr. with stealing $391.21 worth of clothing from the store.
Depena was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment May 2 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, at which time she can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n SHAMOKIN - Theresa A. Nicholson, 39, of 320 Water St., Ranshaw, waived to court Tuesday charges of forgery, theft and receiving stolen property and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment May 2 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury.
Nicholson was charged by Shamokin Patrolman William Zalinski with stealing five checks belonging to Donna Yoder and then forging and cashing the checks for $700. Police said Nicholson stole the checks from Yoder's home while the victim was in the hospital between Oct. 14 and Nov. 17. Yoder has since passed away.
At her arraignment, Nicholson can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n SHAMOKIN - Edguardo J. Rivera, 31, of Bronx, N.Y., pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor of theft by unlawful taking and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $300 fine plus costs.
A felony charge of retail theft was withdrawn.
Rivera was charged by Coal Township Patrolman David Sage with stealing approximately $2,600 worth of merchandise on Jan. 22 from Wal-Mart Supercenter along Route 61.
