Times-Shamrock Communications, parent of The News-Item and other newspapers and radio stations across Northeast Pennsylvania, has teamed up with WNEP Channel 16 to collect funds to help the American Red Cross provide disaster relief to local flood victims.
Readers and viewers may donate to the "Red Cross Local Flood Relief" at 1402 Laurel Boulevard, Pottsville 17901 or they may donate online at LocalFloodRelief.com.
All of the money raised will be given to local Red Cross chapters across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. By setting up a local relief fund, the money donated will go directly to helping local victims.
"From Towanda down to Tunkhannock, West Pittston and beyond - people need supplies, food, water or cash," said George Lynett Jr., CEO of Times-Shamrock Communications and publisher of The Times-Tribune. "The local Red Cross will be able to use these funds to help our neighbors and insure that 100 percent of these funds go right into the communities we serve."
"The Red Cross is on the front lines of disaster relief in our area, and we're happy to be able to help them in their efforts," said WNEP President and General Manager Chuck Morgan.
The United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties is facilitating the effort by receiving and processing donations. Referlocal.com, a local business that offers the "Deal of the Day" in The Times-Tribune and Citizens' Voice, is operating the Web site that will collect donations online.
In addition to The News-Item, Times-Shamrock Communications includes The Times-Tribune, The Citizens' Voice in Wilkes-Barre, The Standard-Speaker in Hazleton, The Daily Review in Towanda, The Republican Herald in Pottsville and other print publications. It also includes local radio stations Rock 107, FM 92.1 and ESPN Radio.
