SHAMOKIN - Three entries in the first week of The News-Item's 2011 Footbal Contest had perfect scores of 10 correct picks, forcing judges to go to the tie-breaker of most points scored by a single team in the slate of games.
In the end, it was Luke Butler, of 909 Walnut St., Coal Township, who correctly picked 42 as the most points scored this week. Southern Columbia scored 42 points in his 42-21 win over Line Mountain Friday night. For his correct picks, Butler wins a $50 gift certificate to any of the participating sponsors in the contest.
Jim Kozlowski, of 487 W. Saylor St., Atlas, took home second place and a $25 gift certifcate with 10 correct selections and a guess of 40 points as the top score. Jim Williams Jr. of 1020 W. Pine St., Coal Township, won third place with 10 correct selections and a guess of 52 points.
All three winners are also eligible for the $200 grand prize drawing at the end of the season.
