92nd annual event continues today with 'run for fun,' military tribute

ELYSBURG - Nearly two dozen people freely donned inflatable sumo suits in the early September heat and humidity to duke it out during the annual sumo wrestling competition at All Home Days Sunday.

Bill Jeremiah won the cup for the under 18 category, beating out Saiko Jawa-Smalla, Josiah Covert, Jacob Petro, Blake Day, Gregory Rishel, AJ Goodlunas, Juliet Kramer and Zsofia Kandrot.

Laurie Morris won the women's division over Julie Petro.

Bill Swank, now known as "The Bear Hunter," won the open group, conquering Greg Berezovski (a.k.a. GI Bear), Frank Buck, Branden Blodgeto, Douglas Honabach, and in the final round, David Covert.

When asked how he felt, Swank said, "Tired."

Sunday's events also included a Cub Scout soap box derby, basket bingo, Ralpho Township Raiders football games, music by Covert Action and a car show.

Joe Klokis, with his 1974 Willy, won best in show. Other winners were: Gene and Betty Duke, Terry Pheasant, Roger Alleman - customs; Gil Powell, Fran Mignot, Brian Persing and Gary Reed - trucks; Bill Swank Sr., Terry Pheasant Bill Swank Jr. and John Glosek - bikes; Richard Etringham and Bob and Barb Hampton - antiques; Michael Smith, Dan Honaborger and Tim Staniezewski - oldies; Gary Hickson, Joe Klokis and Harry Hudick Jr. - hot rods; Carl Starnoski, Gary and Annemaire Reidinger, Myron Whitenight, Bob Kidrou, David Ferrick, Craig Smith and Jim Hendricks - classic muscle; Paul Reidinger, Ron Bosarave, Ann Vesnefskie, Lacey Smith, Joe Broscious and Mike Mudry - modern muscle; Terry Vesnefskie, Dave Ernest, Winchester and Steve Campbell - convertables, and Dan Laubach, Tim Reigle Jr., Steven Kurtz and Amy Masden - tuners.

All Home Days wraps up a weekend of events today with a 5K "Run for Fun," a horeshoe tournament, karaoke, chicken barbeque dinner, a tribute to troops and veterans, music by Randy Lunger and a performance by The Vic Boris Trio.
