DANVILLE - The Auxiliary at Geisinger Medical Center will hold its annual Lighting Up Tomorrow Gala on Saturday, Oct. 1, on the grounds of Geisinger-Woodbine, 115 Woodbine Lane.
The Lighting Up Tomorrow Gala is the auxiliary's largest annual fund-raiser, said Fran Bitterly, auxiliary president.
"Last year we raised more than $100,000 for initiatives such as Mission Cataract, No One Dies Alone, wound treatment equipment and education for administrative professionals," she said.
This year's gala will support the following initiatives:
Mission Cataract: A free cataract surgery program for those without health insurance.
No One Dies Alone: A program that trains volunteers to sit with and comfort patients at the end of life.
The Child Advocacy Center: A division of the Janet Weis Children's Hospital, the center was created to help reduce the number of interviews being conducted during child abuse investigations.
The 2011 Lighting Up Tomorrow Gala begins with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction at 6 p.m. Dinner and a live auction follow at 7:30 p.m., with music and dancing until midnight. Dress is black-tie preferred. To purchase tickets, make a sponsorship or donate auction items, contact Nikki Rump at 271-6257.
