The National Weather Service (NWS) is calling for a snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches in Northumberland County after all is said and done this evening.

There was a slight chance of snow Tuesday evening with a mixture of sleet and freezing rain following shortly after midnight, said NWS meteorologist Tony Mach.

The overnight accumulation of snow and sleet is expected to be an inch with an accumulation of ice expected to be a tenth of an inch, said Mach.

Mach predicted a mixture of freezing rain, snow, sleet and rain accumulating another inch Wednesday morning. By Wednesday night, the mixture was expected to accumulate yet another 1 to 3 inches.

By Thursday morning, 3 to 5 inches will likely be on the ground, said Mach.

Following the storm, snow showers are expected both Thursday morning and Sunday afternoon, said Mach.

However, the temperatures are expected to be low, thus not allowing much snow melt by the weekend.
