WEST BUFFALO TOWNSHIP - An 18-year-old Mifflinburg girl, formerly of Coal Township, was killed and the driver seriously injured Wednesday night when they were ejected from a vehicle that flipped over multiple times along Sportsman Club Road in this Union County township.
State police at Milton reported Emily A. Kunkel was pronounced dead at the scene by Union County Coroner Wanda Walters following the 6:45 p.m. crash that took place approximately one-quarter mile west of Steffen Road.
Police said Kunkel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from a 2004 Pontiac GTO driven east by Christopher L. Libby, 19, of Mifflinburg. Libby, who was not wearing his seatbelt, also was ejected and suffered serious injuries. He was transported by medical helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he was listed in serious condition Thursday.
Police reported Libby passed another driver at a high rate of speed and exited the north side of the road, where it overturned multiple times while descending an embankment.
The car sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by Bing's Towing.
Mifflinburg fire and ambulance personnel assisted at the scene.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
