SUNBURY - In an effort to optimize efficiency and maintain sound financial controls over the collection of fines and restitution paid for criminal offenses, the criminal cost office will transfer from the clerk of courts office to the adult probation department, effective Monday.

As per a resolution signed on June 21 by county commissioners Frank Sawicki, Vinny Clausi and Merle Phillips, Clerk of Courts Kathleen Strausser and President Judge Robert B. Sacavage, the criminal cost office will move from the courthouse to the Human Services Complex, 322 N. Second St., first floor, Building B.

The cost office will close at 3 p.m. Monday for the move and will reopen Tuesday at 9 a.m.

The transfer of the criminal cost office, which was announced Friday by Northumberland County Court Administration officials, is expected to increase revenue through more efficient and prompt cost collections.

The move involves cost collection clerk Sarah Snyder being transferred to the adult probation department and the hiring of Noreen Stamm as a secretary in the adult probation department. Stamm, who began her duties Monday, was hired at salary of approximately $21,500.
