CATAWISSA RR - The resignation of Southern Columbia Area business manager was unanimously accepted Monday night at the monthly board meeting.

"I thank Mr. (Daniel C.) Rodgers for his great work," said President Michael Yeager. "Everything we've asked of him, he's been able to accommodate."

Rodgers will leave his position on Oct. 22 after nearly six years of service to the district. His salary at Southern Columbia is $84,000 a year.

Superintendent Charlie Reh said Rodgers accepted a position as business manager with the Pennsbury School District.

The position has already been advertised and the Southern Columbia board will accept applications until Aug. 25. They hope to have a replacement before Rodgers leaves so the new manager will benefit from a training period, said Reh.

The resignation was included in a block of personnel items.

Directors John Yocum and Timothy Vought made and seconded the motion. It passed 8-0. Director Dave Stellfox was absent.

High school physical education teacher Claire Campbell informed the board that the "Tigers in Training" program was awarded a $10,000 Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge grant from the Highmark Foundation.

"Our goals are to increase cardio-respiratory fitness and lifelong learning of physical education," said Campbell.

The grant was written by Campbell and Jen Stien, high school geometry teacher and girl's soccer coach.

The foundation has awarded more than $8 million through 945 grants to schools across Pennsylvania, said Campbell.

The Highmark Foundation is a charitable organization and private foundation funded solely by Highmark Inc.
