Trail public meeting tonight

SHAMOKIN - The final public meeting on the Lower Anthracite Heritage Regional Trail/Greenway Plan Project will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at the Northumberland County Career and Arts Center, 2 E. Arch St.

The final draft report and trail alignment for the Lower Anthracite Heritage Regional Trail will be presented. The trail is expected to provide walking and bicycling opportunities for local residents and spur eco-tourism opportunities for the region.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council, a statewide non-profit organization, has received grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and donations from private businesses for the project planned to span Columbia, Schuylkill and Northumberland counties.

Tax notice investigation

KULPMONT - Members of borough council are working to find out why many residents have received tax notices from Berkheimer Tax Administrator. Residents are asked to be patient during the investigation.

Food pantry drive this week at pool

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Community Swimming Pool will hold a food drive through Friday. Anyone who brings a non-perishable food item during the drive will be admitted free. One item is allowed per person per day. All donated food will be given to the Mount Carmel Food Pantry.

Sunbury pool food drive

SUNBURY - Anyone bringing a canned food item to the Sunbury Community Pool today will be admitted for a $1.75 discount. Normal admission price is $3.75. All canned foods will be donated to a local food bank. For more information, call 286-1441.
