RANSHAW - A large crowd turned out Sunday afternoon for the annual crab festival at the Ranshaw Civic Association grounds that was expected to raise more than $5,000 for Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

More than 300 $50 tickets were sold for the event sponsored by the hospital.

Patrons were treated to a delicious meal including all-you-can-eat hard shell crabs, barbecue chicken, pulled pork, other picnic fare and a variety of refreshments.

Various raffles were held throughout the day.

Vendors included Chesapeake Seafood Caterers of Saint Michaels, Md., Hornberger's Pig Roast of Paxinos, and Scicchitano Catering of Kulpmont. Entertainment was provided by Max Morrison of D.J. Maxx.

Thomas Harlow, chief administrative officer at the hospital, and Amber Depew, a specialist in corporate communications with Geisinger Health System, thanked all the organizers, sponsors, vendors and patrons who made the crab festival successful once again.

The event ran from 2 to 6 p.m. and as of 3 p.m., more than 200 people were in attendance.

"We were blessed with beautiful weather again this year," said Harlow. "We have a great turnout. This is the third year for the festival at the RCA grounds and it seems to improve each year."

Harlow pointed out all proceeds from the event go directly toward Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
