GIRARDVILLE - An Ashland man was jailed Wednesday after state police at Frackville were called to a burglary in progress on North Second Street in the borough.

Police said Shawn C. Jago, 35, of 1439 Centre St., was charged by Trooper Edward Sanchez with one felony count each of burglary, theft and criminal trespass, along with one misdemeanor count each of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jago was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail.

Sanchez said the incident unfolded when police were called about 12:30 p.m. for a burglary in progress at 109 N. Second St., Girardville.

Jago trespassed at the rear of the property, went onto an attached rear porch and stole a blue backpack containing binoculars, a buck call and an archery gauntlet and a pink bag containing clothes, a pocket radio and hygiene supplies. He also took a Toshiba laptop, valued at $500, from a porch seat and then climbed up the porch and onto the roof.

When residents of the home came out and confronted him, Sanchez said Jago began throwing items onto a third floor roof and then jumped onto an adjacent roof at 107 N. Second St.

Sanchez said that when police arrived, Jago jumped from the roof into the yard at that property and, as police gave chase, forced open a rear door at 107 N. Second St. and entered the property, refusing to come out when ordered. When police entered the home, they found Jago hiding in an overhead crawl space and wrestled with the man to take him into custody after he refused orders to surrender.

A search of Jago found he was in possession of a small, metal mint container with a baggie inside that tested positive for amphetamine, Sanchez said. The man also had another bag that contained a rock of a white crystal substance and was also in possession of a white pill that Jago identified as a painkiller that was not prescribed to him.

Jago will now have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Hale in her Frackville courtroom.
