SHAMOKIN - Doggy paddle was the preferred stroke of choice Monday afternoon at Lawton W. Schroyer Memorial Swimming Pool in Shamokin.
Around 25 dogs and 25 people dove into the community pool for a K-9 splash benefitting Mostly Mutts.
Barbara Moyer, a member of the Shamokin City council, said she was thrilled with the turnout.
"We hope it's the first of an annual event," she said. "It highlights the great facility."
Half of all proceeds from ticket sales went to Mostly Mutts, a nonprofit animal shelter in Sunbury.
"For us it's nice to see dogs that were adopted from Mostly Mutts," said Cindy Sharp, a board member of the organization.
Volunteers also brought out some of the dogs from the shelter including Bubba, an older brown dog who avoided the water.
The shelter has more than 90 dogs available for adoption. Anyone interested in taking in a new friend should visit www.mostlymuttsonline.com.
