'Paddle Between Parks' set Saturday
MILTON - Outdoor enthusiasts can grab their canoes and kayaks and participate in the third annual Paddle Between the Parks on Saturday.
The event begins at Milton State Park and ends at Shikellamy State Park in Sunbury, a distance of 12 miles. Last year, more than 50 kayakers and canoeists took part in the event, which is sponsored by Friends of the Milton State Park and Friends of the Shikellamy State Park.
Registration fee is $25 for individuals 18 and older and $15 for those under 18. Snacks and water will be provided, and lunch will be available for $5 at Steel Steeds Campground, halfway between the two parks.
Kayaks and canoes can be rented from Canoe Susquehanna. Call 1-888-524-7692 or contact Betsy Quant at betsy@paddlehappy.com.
A registration form for the event may be requested from Betsy Cox. Call 286-4974 or e-mail altimacox@vwerizon.net.
On the day of the event, participants are advised to drop off their canoes and kayaks at Milton, then drive to the Shikellamy State Park and leave their vehicles there. At 7:15 a.m., a shuttle bus will take them back to Milton for the 8 a.m. launch.
Arrival at the Shikellamy State Park is anticipated around 1 p.m. Those who need can take a shuttle back to Milton.
