SHAMOKIN - Two students tied this year as winners of a music award presented by the Cecilian Club. were announced Monday at the banquet of the Cecilian Club. Each student was awarded $300. Both winners and their parents were guests at a club banquet Monday.
Award recipients are Ivy-Rose Kramer and Anthony Rodriguez Jr.
Kramer, a senior at Bloomsburg High School, will attend Gettysburg College. She is a daughter of Philip F. Gehret and Rebecca A. Kramer. Kramer is a French horn player who, among other honors, has been in the county band, district band, district orchestra, region band and region orchestra in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. She was drum major for the marching band in 2013-14 and tournament of bands all-star band in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Rodriguez is a son of Kay and Tony Rodriguez. A 2015 graduate of Southern Columbia Area High School, he will attend Kutztown University, majoring in music education with piano as his specialty. His musical activities include playing piano in the jazz band (grades 9 to 12), Encore (rehearsal accompanist/pit, oboe/clarinet, fifth to 12th grades), marching band (clarinet, stands major, eighth to 12th grades) and gospel choir (ninth to 11th grades). He was in district band and orchestra for oboe in 11th and 12th grades, as well as all-state wind ensemble for oboe in 12th grade. He has also been involved with Community Spirit choir in 12th grade.
Outgoing officers were recognized at the banquet, including Kathi Christ, outgoing president; Noriene Ladd, retiring after 14 years as treasurer, and Carolyn Weaver, retiring after many years as librarian. They were thanked for their years of service.
Marily Stasney installed the new slate of officers for the next two years: Nan Weller, president; Mary Anne Miller, first vice president; David Kopitsky, second vice president; Linda Latsha, secretary; Carol Ellis, treasurer, and Grethel Vinup and Mary Hollingshead, librarians.
The executive and music committees will spend the summer planning meetings for the coming year, and look forward to presenting concerts for the public again beginning in October.
