RUSH TOWNSHIP - Elysburg Fire Company and emergency service personnel were called to the rural Rushtown Road at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday after an accident involving a Farmall tractor.
Elmer I. Faust, 71, of 352 Rushtown Road, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 p.m. by Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley. Kelley said the man asphyxiated after the tractor rolled over and crushed him.
Kelley said the tractor hit a tree stump and rolled, pinning him underneath. Faust was operating the tractor on an old logging road behind the house at 346 Rushtown Road, where his uncle, Glenn Swank, resided. No one was at the residence when the accident occurred.
Faust was remembered by family who gathered at the scene as a generous man.
"He would do anything for anyone," said his son, Chris Faust. "He was always doing something. He loved to hunt and fish, go camping and tinker with tools."
The younger Faust said his father often walked the trail and mowed the grass and was familiar with the terrain where he died.
"He passed away doing what he loved," said a family member who asjed not want to be identified.
Also at the scene were Chief Deputy Coroner James R. Gotlob and state police. Kelley said no further information will be released.
