SUNBURY - A Sunbury man was charged Tuesday for making terroristic threats and attempting to rape a woman early Tuesday morning.
Troy Nicholas Bennick, 26, of 136 Lombard St., Sunbury, was arraigned Tuesday before District Magistrate John Gembic III, Shamokin, and committed to Northumberland County Prison on $40,000 cash bail on charges of attempted rape, attempted sexual assault, aggravated assault, attempted indecent assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment regarding an incident that occurred at 3:56 a.m. Tuesday.
Sunbury Police said Bennick, who knew the victim, made several calls to the victim's phone, threatening to kill her. Police said Bennick attacked the victim between two houses on Pine Street. A neighbor heard the victim and turned on an outside light, prompting Bennick to run away, according to police. The victim also fled, and was assaulted by Bennick a second time. He punched her and held a knife to her neck and back, according to police.
When questioned by police, Bennick said he had been to several bars in Sunbury and walked around the city before returning home at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said that he later admitted to making threats to the victim.
