Sunbury Celebration events today, Sunday

SUNBURY - The Fourth of July celebrations continue this weekend with the Sunbury Celebration.

Today

David L. Persing Recreational Complex at North Fourth Street

7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. - Ta Ta Trot 5K Run sponsored by the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

9 a.m. to 10 a.m. - Zumba outdoors with radio station Y106.5.

10 a.m. - Sunbury Youth Baseball Tournament and food stand, games courtesy of Dusk Scholl's Amusement, food vendors in the Fort Discovery parking lot and cake wheel sponsored by the Sunbury Eagles Ladies Dartball League No. 1.

11 a.m. - Dunking Booth sponsored by the Shikellamy football cheerleaders, spin art sponsored by the Susquehanna Bank, horse ride and photo sponsored by the Kremer 4-H Riders, BBQ ribs sponsored by the Sunbury Elks, BBQ chicken sponsored by the Goodwill Hose Company and rip tickets to win stuffed toys sponsored by the Sunbury Fire Department.

Noon to 4 p.m. - Free Hurr's ice cream for all children under 18 years of age.

Noon to 8 p.m. - Free swimming at the Sunbury Youth and Community Center.

4 p.m. to 9 p.m. - PCWA State Professional Wrestlers G.I. Bear, All Biz, Nick Destiny and Mike Christian signing autographs at the Rescue Hose Company.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Donation collection for next year's fireworks by Sunbury Fire Department.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Music provided by Memory Lane 50s and 60s Music Bank on the stage.

9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. - Radio Station 94KX Sound Track.

9:30 p.m. - Fireworlks at Shikellamy Elementary School (Rain day is Sunday).

Sunday

10th annual Soapbox Derby at Market and 10th streets (Rain date July 17).

Boys and girls ages 8 to 12 weighing less than 125 pounds can race. Soapbox cars will be provided by area businesses and individuals. Registration forms are available at the mayor's office and police department.

9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. - Race sign up and weigh in. Racers are encouraged to pre-register.

10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. - Finalizing racing brackets

11 a.m. - Start of race. All racers will receive a medallion and free T-shirt sponsored by Sunbury Textile Mills Inc. and the New Paul Stine Chevrolet Olds Inc., a New Mark Monaghan Dealership. Kevin Herr of 94 KX and Eric Long will announce the race. Shikellamy JROTC will serve as pit crew.

There will be a trophy presentation at the end of the race for first-, second- and third-place racers in each age group. Trophies and medallions are sponsored by Roger's Trophies, of Sunbury.
