LOCUST TOWNSHIP - Tragedy occurred at Knoebels Amusement Resort Wednesday afternoon when a six-year-old boy died from injuries he sustained when he struck his head jumping into the park's Crystal Pool.
Park lifeguards performed CPR before the boy was transported by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
"Our hearts go out to the family and they are in our thoughts and prayers," Knoebels Public Relations Manager Joe Muscato said Wednesday evening. "It's a terrible tragedy and all focus should be directed to the family."
Muscato said that witnesses saw the boy jumping in and out of the shallow-end of the pool in the location where he struck his head.
A pool manager reported to Muscato that lifeguards did everything they could performing CPR and that two guests, who are trained in the medical field, also assisted.
The Knoebel family also expressed their sorrow by posting a message on their official Facebook page.
"We are deeply saddened to report that the child has passed away. Please join the Knoebel families in placing the child's family and friends in your prayers."
By presstime, the posting was flooded with more than 900 comments expressing sympathy for the boy and his family.
Knoebels also temporarily shut down its main website and posted a page stating similar information.
Attempts to reach Ralpho and Locust townships police departments were unsuccessful.
