SHAMOKIN - Nothing has been finalized regarding CareerLink representatives staying at the former location at the Northumberland County Career and Arts Center here, Shannon Miller, executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corp. (CPWDC), said Tuesday.
In fact, Miller discussed how CPWDC has lost more funding, although she didn't say whether that would impact the tentative plan to keep two employees at the city site.
Those workers would provide services to employers looking to fill job orders and work with local school districts, Miller said last month.
There were no representatives of CareerLink in the building Tuesday afternoon. Several staff members of other organizations said no CareerLink services had been in the building since Friday.
Miller said the recent funding cut involves the Employer Assistance and Resource Network (EARN) program.
"CPWDC suffered a substantial loss of funding for our EARN programs," she said through e-mail Tuesday.
The allocation, received June 29 for the fiscal year that began two days later, has been decreased 48 percent; that's on top of a 20 percent decrease last fiscal year.
"Because of the lateness of receiving that allocation, it will take some time to determine staffing needs," she said.
