SUNBURY - The superintendent of Shikellamy School District is suspended for 20 days without pay for a DUI incident in New York, according to The Daily Item.
The newspaper reported Patrick Kelley, who has been with the district since 2012, told school board President James Hartman about the incident. The board unanimously voted during a regular meeting Thursday to put Kelley on leave without pay, the paper reported.
A statement by board solicitor Jeff Apfelbaum noted Kelley agreed to a suspension of 20 work days beginning Friday and running through Nov. 6, according to the paper.
The Daily Item reported Kelley, who makes more than $120,000 per year, was at work on Thursday but not at Thursday night's school board meeting.
Apfelbaum, speaking for the board, would not comment on when or where the incident occurred, the paper reported.
Oaklyn principal
Kelley is the second Shikellamy administrator to be charged recently with an alcohol-related offense.
Oaklyn Elementary School Principal Holly Judge was charged with DUI in June and allegedly begged the officer for leniency because of her job.
She later resigned. Angela Farronato, who has served as the middle school principal in Southern Columbia Area School District for the past three years, was hired as Oaklyn's principal in August.
Judge, 36, of Northumberland, was stopped by state police Tropper Craig Magnuson on Market Street at 11:30 p.m. May 30, according to the Sunbury newspaper. She initially refused a breathalyzer or blood test, and Magnuson said Judge was unable to stand without stumbling during a field test.
A blood-alcohol test determined Judge's BAC was .33 percent, more than four times the legal limit, according to the paper.
Judge waived her right to a preliminary hearing Sept. 3, and unsecured bail was set at $15,000. A formal arraignment before Snyder County President Judge Michael T. Hudock scheduled for Tuesday was canceled. She is awaiting a pre-trial conference, according to court documents.
